In this dystopian future from debut author Veronica Roth, there are only five categories a person can belong to. Beatrice's aptitude test results are supposed to reveal which one she belongs in. But her test results are shocking. Even more surprising is the group she selects in her 16th year on choosing day.
You can only belong to one group. Either Amity (the peaceful), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Erudite (the intelligent), or Candor (the honest). One of these groups will rise up against another one, attempting to massacre everyone in it.
Even though Beatrice - now Tris - is just gaining her strength and confidence from a rigorous initiation process, she has to face the new enemy and that means facing her friends in battle. This Chicago-based thriller is unique and refreshing, and one that you don't want to miss.

Lisa says:
It starts off using the reader obtaining to be aware of the lifestyle of Beatrice, a sixteen-year old woman, in a dystopian or controlled world, where there are five factions of individuals: Abnegation who get others before their own needs and where Beatrice is presently from, the Dauntless who are courageous and fearless, the Erudite who are studious, the Amity who are peaceful, and the Candor who are fair. From there Beatrice must make her own mark in the world, and finally makes a decision which will change the rest of her existence. No more does she portray the meek, hushed girl without any nature, but rather forces herself to rise around the difficulties she faces in both the initiation as well as in her lifestyle. For if she lets her guard down, she faces getting faction-less, without friends or family, but what she does not be prepared to find along her new path is along what she yearned for all. To understand who she actually is. Divergent is one novel that had me jumping out of my seat, biting my nails to the fast as I was drawn into Beatrice's world, cheering her on 1 minute, and needing to cry with her the next. She does have her occasions where she appears just a little chilly like when she desires one son would quit sniveling, and you see why Abnegation did not suit her. But then the next minute she's putting herself in risk for someone else, and you comprehend why she has a bit of a split personality. She is been born into a society that considers you may only have one quality, and she has to find out on her own that being brave doesn't imply that she's got to stop being selfless also. As she struggles to stay in the competition, for just ten initiates will be able to phone their new faction family, I cannot help but root on her behalf. Beatrice has a great deal to master, however it is through challenges as well as the friendship's she makes that she ultimately locates herself. This is truly one novel that I whole-heartedly recommend to anybody who loves action, bravery, a little romance, plus a whole lot of adventure. Be forewarned that it has you sitting to the edge of your-seat and eagerly anticipating a sequel!
