Inescapable trouble is brewing all around the throne of the Kingdom of Winterfell. After the King's most trustworthy advisor is mysteriously murdered, enemies seem to be emerging from out of every shadow. The Lord Eddard who is appointed to be the King's new right hand was not a favorable choice, and more conflicts arise between the competing Stark and Lannister families who fight to gain ultimate control of the Iron throne. Political struggles increase at the Southern border of the kingdom as well; struggles which are becoming more difficult to contain.

Meanwhile, outside of the Winterfell Kingdom's well-protected Northern border lurks growing unrest as many other races approach to seek refuge from the biting winter. On the other side of the ancient, Northern Wall lie ice vampires, brutal barbarians, and direwolves, among others. When this winter will last for forty years, everyone's chances of survival become grim and the fight for power builds at a deadly intensity. A dragon princess from afar has also decided to enter the game of thrones; with so much at stake, who has enough might to rule the Seven Kingdoms?

Al says:
GOT is a great story. If you've watched the HBO series, the book seems to fit right in with the shows. It's hugely long though and getting through all the books is going to take a lot of dedication.
